The Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRc) measures how well a celing absorbs sound, with values ranging from 0 to 1.00. A celing with an NRc of 0.6 absorbs 60% of sound and relects 40%. Products with NRC values exceeding 0.50 are considered to have high sound absorption performance. Kente celling tiles enhance absorption capabilities, achieving NRC values between 0.65 and 0.75.
if the noise is 70 decibels (very noisy, like a busy traffic road, detrimental to human nerves), with a sound absorption coefficient of 0.7, the noise would be around 49 decibels ( hammless to human health, akin to office conversation at approximately 60 decibels).
Sound Blocking
The Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) measures a ceiling's ability to block sound waves between adjacent offices. When sound waves pass through a ceiling, their volume decreases as they enter the space above the ceiling and pass through cement walls into neighboring offices. lf conversation becomes indistinguishable at this point, it indicates an appropriate sound insulation level. Ceilings with high CAC ratings prevent sound from escaping, ensuring privacy during conversations. ACAC rating of 40 means it can block 40 decibels of sound. Products with CAC ratings of 35 or higher are considered high sound insulation products, Kente tiles boast a sound insulation performance with a high CAC rating of 45.
Between two adjacent closed spaces (e.g. offices), sound waves penetrate the space above the ceiling into the neighboring ofice, the ability of the ceiling system as a sound insulator to block sound waves from penetrating is the sound insulation capacity. If the sound insulation class CAC of the ceiling system is <25, it means that the material is not good at sound insulation. On the other hand, if the sound insulation class CAC is >35, it means that the material is very good at sound insulation.
